A yacht is a kind of boat that is used for the purpose of cruising and enjoyment. So it is a recreational boat. There are two types of yachts. First type is a sailing yach and the other one is motor or power yacht. Yachts are different from usual ships and boats because of their purpose which is recreation and leisure. Today, only the richest of people can afford to have a luxury yacht. This is so because luxury yachts are very expensive. They provide almost all the luxuries and amenities of a hotel. State of the art interior designs, luxurious rooms, dining halls, swimming pools, and play areas, lounges etc. are all available in a large sized or usually called mega yachts or super yachts. The levelof luxury though, is different and is according to the price of the yacht. Some yachts are also used for racing purposes.
Size of a yacht varies from 32 feet to hundreds of feet. Mega yachts are usually above hunded feet length whereas, a super yacht is more than 200 ft in length. Cruise liners have even more length than these lengths. The cost of maintenance of a yacht is much more than a sailboat or a fishing boat. Sailing yachts are of two types, Day sailing yachts, weekender yachts, cruising yachts and luxury yachts. Day sailing yachts are 20 ft long.
These yachts are usually used only in the day and not for overnight purposes.Weekender yachts are bigger i.e. almost 30 ft in length. They usually sail in shallow waters.slightly larger, sub-30-feet (9.5 m) in length. They also have a cabin and a place to sleep for 2 to 3 people. Cruising yachts are the most widely used and are usually 14 metre in length. These yachts are carefully designed and are comparatively more comfortable. Cruisers are quite capable of taking on long-range passages of many thousands of miles.
Luxury yachts also are of two types i.e. Sailing and motor operated yachts. Nowadays, there are many internet sites which have yachts for sale. They also provide a range of specifications and pictures of interior and exterior.Luxury Yachts can be 82 feet or longer. Yachts are very intricately designed and have become very sophisticated now. Motor yachts work on two combustion engines. The fuel used by motor yachts is usually diesel. Because of the fuel costs, motor yachts are much more expensive to operate as compared to Sailing yachts.
Today, luxury yachts are mostly privately owned by very wealthy businessmen, industrialists, politicians and other high level executives. These luxury yachts are also callled super yachts or mega yachts. This trend started in the 20th century when people first made their own private yachts for cruising into the sea. A very well-known example is of titanic ship which was highly luxurious, owned by a number of investors. It was thought to be unmatched for its design and technology. Yet, it had to face a dreadful fate at the end.For the last 20 years or so, there has been an increased trend to buy private yachts which sometimes people use for earning a lot of money from the tourists. Most of the Luxury yachts in the world usually cruise in deep waters of the mediterranean and the caribbean seas.With the increasing demand of yachts, a whole new industry has emerged where many companies have started to build state of the art luxury cruisers and yachts.
Some owners of yachts operate their yachts as a charter business by which interested people hire the yacht for some days or weeks. Hiring a private yacht though is very expensive yet, many fortune 500 companies do that to make their executives more satisfied from the corporation.
