When talking about water sports there are two kinds, towed and non towed. In towed water sports the participant is pulled by a boat or any other vehicle at different speeds depending on the activity at the time. On the other hand non towed water sports are where the person is in control of the board, sail and many more himself and the forces of nature decide the objects course. There are various kinds of different water sports and people have their own likes and dislikes.
Firstly let us talk about Towed water sports. Discing is a very popular form of water sport. It involves a person riding on a disc and being pulled or powered by a boat. The disc helps in maintaining the weight balance and also this sport cannot be performed at high speeds and is considered to be sometimes boring by various people. Then we have Tubing, this involves a tube made from rubber, is mainly for novices. The tube is pulled behind a boat and the aim of the sport is to hold on as long as possible. This sport is mainly preferred by kids and children. Also we have another popular sport that needs some technique and balance. Wakeboarding which was previously known as Skurfing is a sport which involves a board. The length of the board depends on the rider’s preference. The board is pulled behind a boat at varying speeds. Beginners use a small rope and go at slower speeds whereas advanced participants use longer ropes and go at higher speeds. Last but not the least we have Towed Hydrofoiling, this involves a person being pulled by a powered boat and riding on a water kite. These are the water sports that involve the use of vehicles and ropes.
Lets now move onto non towed water sports. One of the most popular and exhilarating sports is surfing. This involves the use of a board and the boarder finds a way to ride a wave. This sport is widely preferred by all mostly due to its excitement and unpredictable nature. There are some accidents involved in this sport mainly shark attacks! Then we move onto windsurfing, this sport involves the use of a board and sail. The rider controls the board by tilting it in any direction he wants. The board is mainly powered by the forces of the wind. Furthermore we have Bodyboarding, this sport is different from all the others as the rider has to ride the board in a lying position or a semi standing position. This also involves riding a wave and paddling. This sport is also practiced by different individuals. Another sport which kind of resembles windsurfing is kite surfing but there is a little difference. In kite surfing there is a small board that is powered by a kite. Some also practice this on land by using wheels! This sport is also known as fly surfing. Last but not the least we have hydrofoil sailing which has just been currently invented or one can say has made its debut. One thing that makes this sport different from all the others is that the rudders in the boats are T shaped and the boat has a centre board. The uniqueness of this is that when sailing the hull goes above the water! Due to this the speed increases two times that of the wind. The highest speed that was penned down was fifty kilometers per hour! What helps in achieving this speed is the fact that the board and sails are light weight and easy to handle.
These are some of the most exhilarating and exciting water sports on the planet. People who thirst for adventure and excitement should try all of them as they are pretty easy to understand and learn.
