Wakeboarding is a mixture of many types of sports such as surfing, skiing in water and last but not the least snowboarding which is a very popular form of sport. The main concept of wakeboarding is that the rider is pulled behind a boat that travels at high speeds. The speed depends on the weight, age and the size of the board one is riding. Heavy weight people go at slower speeds whereas light weight and athletic people travel at faster speeds. Furthermore the rider has the ultimate choice of what speed he wants to wakeboard at, so the ultimate decision power rests in the hand of the rider. But mainly the common and highest speeds that the boat travels at are 18-24 miles per hour. Other then water wakeboarding can be attempted by using different types of mediums such as ATVs, winches and many more.

The boards are of different variety and consist of different materials and parts. The boards centre consists of different materials such as mixture of raisin and foam; fiberglass is also used in the manufacture of the board. To join together fins and various parts metallic screws are used so that no problems occur in the future. The type of wakeboard and its components depends on the riders choice and views for example if the riders prefer to perform easy tricks that can be performed on the surface of the water they would attach small fins that would not penetrate the water too deep. Nowadays boards with shallow fins are more in demand as they are easier to handle and use.

Furthermore rockers are a basic component of wakeboards. They start from the board’s tail and end at the tip. These can mainly be seen as the components that give the board a bending shape. There are numerous different types of rockers but the most used and preferred by riders are the continuous rocker which has a straight curve and bend that remains constant on the board and does not change. Secondly we have the three stage rocker; this differs from the continuous rocker as it has two unique and different bends, something that resembles the deck of a skateboard. The advantage of continuous rockers is that the board moves faster then normal whereas the three stage rocker has slower speed but has better jumping capabilities.

The length of a board is also important as smaller boards tend to be faster and more agile whereas larger boards tend to be slower but have great landing capabilities. Also the breadth or width of a board also has numerous different advantages and it’s the rider’s choice if he wants the board to be wider or smaller.

There are many wakeboarding boats and wakeboarding can be done on any boat which is fast enough to reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour. Furthermore there are special boats that contain wakeboard towers which are metal made and have a towing point seven feet above the water. This helps the rider to gain more control and easily perform different stunts and tricks. There are also wakeboard tower speakers that help the rider in many ways. There are numerous varieties of wakeboards that are specially suited for use with wakeboarding boats such as hyperlite wakeboards.

Wakeboarding began in the 1980s mainly being inspired from ski boarding and is still going strong. Many youngsters love this sport and take part in many wakeboarding competitions. Wakeboarding is very popular all around the world.
