9-11 did not only effect the economics in general, several airlines were effected as well. Midwest airlines was one of those. Although midwest airline has been able to cope up with most of the dilemmas, unfortunately in the long run it did suffer a little bit.
Not all airlines provide all business class seating arrangement but midwest express airlines does. With its skyway airlines and midwest airlines, it operates from Milwaukee. Although skyway is not a project of the midwest express anymore, midwest air itself is still operational. In spite of the exclusive business class, it still does not do chartered flights.
Its business class flights were the basic reason why midwest airline happened. It had begun as a transportation modality for company executives. The project initially belonged to Kimberly-Clark aviation. However, 36 years after being associated with the k-c name, in 1984, it became the midwest express, which was a regular scheduled passenger airline.
Although the name was midwest express, however with their current advertisement strategy, they are leaving out the word express from their name, promoting midwest airways only. To represent its association with Milwaukee, the new symbol of the airline has an m in a circle which is an anagram, and when turned upside down, represents the symbol of the museum in Milwaukee. But since the logo is relatively new, most of the crafts in the fleet are adorned with old logos. The paint however has been changed in all i.e. although the upper half remains blue; a red line defines it from grey below.
Over the time there has been a regular growth in the fleet as well as the policies. Where the 90s saw MD-80, Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320 being added to its fleet containing the DC9, we also saw new flying packages.
Unfortunately with September 2001, midwest air also had to face a setback financially. As a result, midwest airlines took a number of dire steps in order to stabilize their finances. In the long run, these steps proved to be really essential and fructiferous. The first change was brought in the MD80 aircraft series. The midwest airline basically did a lot of refurbishing with this line, converting it into a novel saver service. This service was amongst the first ones to attend business executives exclusively. The seats arrangement was a 2 by 3 one, featuring ample leg room.
Midwest express airlines were marked by their signature cuisine. However with September 2001, this suffered drastically too. As a result, their gourmet food service was discontinued within 5 months of the incident. The good move was that MD80 was being used on a lot more flights.
Another change came in the form of reduction of the name. Earlier known as midwest express airlines, now the airline is being called midwest airlines, sans the express, majorly to introduce novelty and change, and a more basic and primitive reason, to mark the airline as a national one, whereas express intimates a local/regional airline.
Another step taken by the midwest airlines was to change the name of skyway airline, their subsidiary to midwest air connect.
Since the financial setback continued into the 21st century, midwest had to cut dowon on selective MD80 flights and starting replacing DC9 even more faster with Boeing 717, that consumes much less fuel.
However, it was clear that midwest itself as well as the clientele was missing the signature food, hence in 2005, midwest airline introduced the buy-on-board meal service. Another really bright idea came in the form of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
Due to its sustenance as well as perseverance, midwest air has achieved its target of being the largest longstanding operation at the Mitchell airport.
