The act of catching fish is called Fishing. This word also holds for catching of other marine animals like squids, shellfish, turtles etc. Human history tells us that Fishing is one of the oldest way man has used to provide himself with food. Their are evidences that tell us that fishing had been started 40,000 years ago. Today, fishing is both a way of providing food as well as a recreation and sport. Fly fishing is a unique and very old angling technique. Earlier it was used only for catching trout and Salmon, but today a range of fish are caught by using this method. In this technique, marine animals are caught by the help of fly fishing flies. These flies are attached to a fly rod. The fly fishing flies can both be natural or artificial. The artificial ones are made of fur, feathers, hair and other synthetic materials. These flies are made to resemble the insects and flies of  that habitat. In other angling or casting techniques, a fishing lure is used but in the case of fly fishing, a fishing line is used. This is so because, a fly is too lightweight to be cast by a lure. The fisherman holds the rod in his hand and then, swings the rod with a lot of energy so the fly goes flying over the water into the water.

It is now said that there should not be any movement of the wrist but most of the energy should come from the arm swing. Fly fishing equipment includes a wide variety of fly rods, reels, lines and terminal tackle. Various fishing knots are used for connecting fly lines and terminal tackle together.
