The City of Cannon Beach is located on the Pacific Northwest Coast of Oregon, 80 miles west of Portland and 25 miles south of Astoria. This is a majestic rock having a height of 235 feet. Tourists can usually reach this rock when the water waves are low in the sea especially in the summers. People of cannon beach regard this rock as a part of their heritage. It is also thought to be a marine sanctuary because there is a cave inside it which gives protection. In addition, this rock is an important habitat for a number of seabirds. Around 2,000 seabirds nest on Haystack Rock each year.

These birds are very sensitive to any disturbance. If you get too close to their proximity, they might leave the place. This is the reason no climbing is allowed anywhere on the Haystack Rock. Looking at it from the shore, it looks like a stack of hay. So, it is named that way.

Cannon Beach downtown has many small businesses which cater to the livinghood of its people. Arts and culture are greatly emphasized in this city. In the '70s, some small artists made a little union and started working. Now it has grown and has 20 galleries which have displayed work of locals as well as regional and national artists. Here you can find wonderful art for decoration. So, some of the best arts and crafts stores, shopping areas and galleries are located here. This city also has a small theater called the Coaster Theater, where one can really enjoy live theater performances.
