The american airways have been in the business since 1930, with a fleet of more than 650 aircraft. It alone is the largest airline in the world, carrying more passengers than any other airline. It is also the only american air line to serve every us state.
In the recent times, there has been tremendous development in the american air arena. It had initially begun as an amalgamation of about 80 smaller airlines under one name. Since then, it has not given up on its habit of breaking into new ventures. It has also just recently adopted the hub and spoke routing system and before this was following the point to point system.
The air america has been expanding at an alarming rate according to some resources. Not all people appreciate this progress. Many deem it as progress for the sake of progress only. However, the america airlines thinks otherwise and hence encourages development and growth as long as it is not detrimental to anyone. Every american air line aircraft is a part of the admirals program at one time or the other. The american airlines have a frequent flyer program as well, that goes by the name of AAdvantage. The american air introduced the program to assemble all the loyal passengers of the aircraft at one junction. Until now, it remains the largest loyalty program in the entire world, with the member mark crossing 50 million.
There are a number of known america airline partnerships. The main ones are with oneworld, american connection and american eagle. Apart from these, there are loads of other smaller partnership deals as well.
The american airline serves flights to 4 continents. There are maximum hubs in the us itself. The business of the america airline has not been effected much, in spite of the flying programs of the american west airline. Initially this had begun as a primary american airline project exclusively for the western states. With time, a north american airline was set up as well. Later both the ventures took off as independent set ups. A major cause of this budding process was the airline deregulation move as well.
Today the american west airlines are considered amongst the top 10 airlines of US. Although its hub is based in Arizona, it is considered a part of the us airways. Initially there were only 3 aircraft, and that too boeing 737, and this was back in 1983.
Like its parent subsidiary, it expanded soon to control about 180 aircraft in its fleet. The growth was at such an alarming rate that a new terminal as well as additional gates was required at the home airport in order to accommodate the american west airline. The airline was also one of the first few airlines to introduce cross utilization amongst its employees. Although there was a brief tint of bankruptcy, the airline came out of the phase with flying colors.
Where as the north american airlines have their hub in New york. Their major international flights are to Africa, with loads of domestic flights, limited more to the north. It basically began s an after-math of airline deregulation, something not may flights share. Until now it has been carrying scheduled flights, but sometime later in 2008, it will be ending up all the scheduled setup in favor of chartered flights. The north american airline is also a licensed carrier of the US department of defense, majorly carrying military equipment. It also has the honor to use boeing 767 for the first time for military use.
